This song is for people who know what rock and roll is about
Ok, been away for a while I know, if anyone has a graph of the average drop-off in peoples blog postings over time I’d love to see it. I’ll try to make up for things with a few quick posts.
Went to see Sloan a couple weeks ago at the Commodore, God they’re good, I’ve seen then a couple times and knew it would be a good show but it was actually different from how I’ve seen them before. The previous couple times they’ve been great but very much a goofy/fun/sloppy show, not this time however, they were aggressive and rocking and very tight. Part of the energy was thanks to the crowd, the place was pretty full and easily the most positive vibe I’ve felt at the Commodore before. They played almost entirely well known, rocking hits, didn’t talk too much and seemed very appreciative of the good crowd. Andrew’s songs fell a little flat, they’re not really the type that work live though, especially at a high-energy show, not enough Jay songs but the ones he did sounded great, it was the Chris and Patrick ones that kept bringing the place to a boil again and again: ‘She says what she means’, ‘The Good in Everyone’, ‘Money City Maniacs’, ‘Iggy & Angus’, etc, all sounded amazing. They dispenced with ‘Underwhelmed’ right away, which is understandable but still too bad. Opening act “
▲ - Chris’s high-kicks, guy with Tom Waits gravel-growl voice selling yummy hotdogs outside after.
▼ - The too-tall guys in front of me blocking my view (not to mention Parker’s) stay home too-tall people! (except me, of course)
